Wonka, a musical, based on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory novel, accompanies the 1971 film. Paul King shows Willy
Wonka’s early days of chocolatier and employs some of the music and
characters like the Oompa-Loompas. Timothée Chalamet is a
happy-go-lucky Wonka with able assistant Calah Lane as Noodle and
funky Hugh Grant as Oompa-Loompa. They face a scary Olivia
Colman, Mrs Scrubitt and a trio of corrupt members of the Chocolate
Cartel including a composed Matt Lucas. The Chief-of-Police gets
bigger from corruption and Rowan Atkinson is Father Julius, a
chocolate addict who tries to remain straight-faced.
