Freedom of Expression as a Driver for all Human Rights – 30th Anniversary

In 2021 for the first time the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to 2 journalists, Dmitry Muratov
and Maria Ressa, Co-founder and CEO of Rappler who also received the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

‘Without truth, you can’t have trust. Without trust, we have no shared reality, no democracy,
and it becomes impossible to deal with our world’s existential problems: climate, coronavirus, the battle for truth.

Awarded to her for
‘efforts to safeguard freedom of expression,

which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.’

En 2021 pour la première fois le Prix Nobel de la Paix fut présenté à 2 Journalistes, Dmitry Muratov and Maria Ressa, la Co-fondratice et Directrice de Rappler qui reçut aussi le Prix mondial de la Liberté de la Presse Cano.

Sans confiance, il n’y a pas d’ échange de réalité, de démocratie,
et il n’est plus possible de résoudre les problèmes existentiels dans le monde :
le climat, le coronavirus, le conflit sur la vérité.’

Prix pesente a elle pour
‘l’effort à sauvegarder la liberté de la parole,

qui est une précondition à la démocratie et au maintien de la paix.’

Australian Summer

It has been very hot this week.

I have been drinking lots of water. At night

To get cool under the fan, I placed my pillow

at the bottom of the bed, top-tailing with my husband.

Last night I was very restless then I needed to go to the toilet.

As I turned over, I fell off the edge of the bed with a noisy thump.

My husband swore ‘Shit!‘ switching the light on. The baby started with a loud scream.

Straight back to my daytime role : having to soothe the family before I could have a wee.

L été en Australie

Il a fait très chaud cette semaine. Quand j’ai chaud, je bois de l’eau.

Et la nuit pour me rafraichir je pose mon oreiller au fond du lit sous le ventilateur

Et me mets à l’envers de mon mari. Hier soir ayant virevolté constamment j’ai eu besoin

Des toilettes. En me tournant, je suis tombée du bord du lit en faisant une chute bruyante.

Mon mari, lui, a hurlé ‘Merde’ en allumant la lumière. Le bébé, dérangé a poussé de grands cris.

Ce qui m’a relancée sur mon rôle diurne : il faut calmer les autres avant de pouvoir aller aux toilettes.

How could anyone know about the wound? It was not visible when I smiled, 
neither was it perceptible when I winced. I kept it under my eyelids 
as I reacted to the shocking effect of the negative racist joke.
It stung like a giant jellyfish in the Pacific Ocean. 
It hurt, as it burnt. There’ll be nothing pacific 
about my ongoing follow-up. I’ll remain 
the professional you can talk to,	
but I’ll be minimalist.
Under the cover 
of a common 
institution, 
I’ll claim 
no further consent, but simply a sub-existence. 
You, talking on my behalf, and I, performing alongside you. 


R de Racisme

Comment savoir que j’étais blessée ? Une douleur grimaçante, invisible 
derrière mon sourire; avec discrétion elle resta  sous mes paupières 
quand je ressentis l’effet choquant de ta plaisanterie très raciste. 
Ça me piqua comme fait l’énorme méduse de l’Océan Pacifique
elle m’a fait mal et me causa une brûlure. Rien de pacifique 
ne sera démontrer en conséquence. Je resterai 
l’être professionnel à qui parler
mais en minimaliste
dessous les voiles
d’une institution 
en commun,
sans jamais 
donner mon approbation, vivant une simple existence en subordonnée. 
Toi tu parlerais pour moi; moi je donnerais du rendement à côté de toi
