Killing me softly with music / Il me tue de sa mélodie douce/

Killing me softly with music

The melodies I like listening to do not belong to any one genre like folk or romance although they may be related to troubadour ballads.

A song has impressed me greatly, ‘Killing me softly with his song’ was written by Lari Lieberman (she was inspired by Don McLean)Roberta Flack – Killing Me Softly With His Song (Official Audio) It has been popularised by Roberta Flack (1973).

I first pay attention to the song’s rhythm ‘Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh La-la-la, la-la,’ then concentrate on the emotion as in “Strummin’ my pain with his fingers” before I ponder the lyrics at which point the choice of words and their fusion deeply empower my appreciation, ‘Tellin’ my whole life with his words.’

There exist other genres of songs or poems presented in ekphrastic mode or rap. Rap and Poetry: A Tool For Self-Expression | Craft D |TEDxUWE and the same Craft D aka Danny Carlo demonstrates: This is Hip-Hop | This is Poetry, “It’s country, jazz et R&B et it’s pop/ It’s rock and roll and yeah never will it stop/ So ain’t no way you stoppin’ this hip-hop, hip-hop/This is hip-hop” Usually songs are recited at a high pitch to have a strong impact to ensure the singer’s message is heard. At that stage either the artist starts to beat the rhythm with gestures and body movement, or else I do.

I ‘ve had the pleasure of watching music performances in the street, on benches and on steps of a church in New Orleans during a visit there. I love hearing music in the open air. My own voice can be high and resolute too, to the point that if a singer and their group have enthused me were to march down the road in a protest, political or not, I would join them , and with enthusiasm. There would be no stopping me.

Me Softly With His Song (Official Audio).

Rap and Poetry: A Tool For Self-Expression | Craft D |TEDxUWE .

Se Canto – The Occitan hymn of Southern France

Featured

The ‘Se Canto/Se Canta‘ is a hymn in the Occitan language which

is used in the majority of Southern France.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occitan_language

This traditional song was written in the 14th century probably

by Gaston Phébus, Comte de Foix et Seigneur du Béarn. It

became popular and is used, with minor variants, across most

of Southern France as a regional hymn. It is sung in the Béarn

and Gascony areas by Nadau, who has also brought to life many

other songs in Occitan. He performed this at the Olympia in 2000.

Below is the version my grandparents would sing in the 1950s, in the

Dordogne. It’s sung in the Limousin to Toulouse, further East to the region

of Provence and South to the Pyrénées.

OCCITAN

Dejós ma fenèstra,
I a un aucelon, Tota la nueit canta,
Canta sa cançon

Chorus

Se canta, que cante,
Canta pas per ieu,
Canta per ma mia,
Qu’es al luènh de ieu.

Aquelas montanhas,
Que tan nautas son,
M’empachan de veire,
Mas amors ont son.

Baissatz-vos, montanhas,
Planas, auçatz-vos,
Per que pòsca veire,
Mas amors ont son.

Aquelas montanhas,
Tant s’abaissaràn,
Que mas amoretas,
Se raprocharàn.

ENGLISH

Outside my window,
There is a little bird
It sings all night
It sings its song

Chorus

If it sings, let it sing,
It’s not singing for me,
It sings for my love
Who’s far away from me

Those mountains
That are so high
Keep me from seeing
Where are my love.

Lay down, o mountains,
Rise up, o plains,
So I may see
Where are my love

Those mountains
Will lay down so low
That my dear love
Will come closer.

FRANÇAIS

Sous ma fenêtre
Il y a un petit oiseau,
Qui toute la nuit chante,
Chante sa chanson.

Refrain

S’il chante, qu’il chante,
Il ne chante pas pour moi,
Il chante pour ma mie,
Qui est loin de moi.

Ces montagnes,
Qui sont si hautes,
M’empêchent de voir,
Où sont mes amours.

Abaissez-vous, montagnes,
Plaines, haussez-vous,
Pour que je puisse voir,
Où sont mes amours.

Ces montagnes,
Se rabaisseront,
Et mes amourettes,
Se rapprocheront.

Shingles and Sciatica/ Zona et Sciatique- A personal ballad

A ballad to my tingling shingles

At a time when I had pain down my back,
and itchy spots came on my leg,
which hassled me down the seams of my jeans.
Revelation! It was shingles.

Toes close together, with no will to move,
and my leg dragged heavy as lead,
in the middle of the night in a bath,
I’d hum tunes to my poor sore toes.

Shuffling and limping was the only way
I could achieve going places.
Ensconced in thick socks, my toes stayed stone cold,
My world was quite amiss.

Mixed with sciatica, shingles’ trouble.
Two of my toes are lifeless now.
One year gone by, and I'm not antivax,
a jab to save my other toes.

j’arrivai à me déplacer.
